Well, today was a good day for the team to get to know each other. We started with a late breakfast of eggs, beans, pancakes, tea and devotions lead by Executive Director and co-founder of Hope without Borders, Lance Parve. We then headed off to meet about 30 school kids at the giraffe sanctuary in Nairobi. These school children and from the poorest slums in Nairobi, so it was fun to treat them to a field trip and a lunch of peanut butter, jelly and juice. We then sent them off to the crocodile farms, which was also something most of them have never seen (after pumping them full of candy).
After the giraffe sanctuary we headed off to Kazuri, a bead factory which was started in 1975 to provide steady employment to single mothers. Each bead is hand-crafted by these women, Needless to say we stopped to shop in their store and all walked away with beautiful jewelry and admiration for the beautiful work these women do.
Next we spent about 2 hours in Nairobi "rush hour". We took the opportunity to get to know each other better. We also saw some zebras, wildebeests and giraffes on the way home. We finished the night off celebrating Victoria's birthday.
Tomorrow we will visit a women's co-op and do some home visits in the slums. See you all tomorrow.....
